Charlie Brophy is an Australian photographer with Irish-Indian roots, currently based in Melbourne. Charlie has been ‘painting with light’ since the age of sixteen where she fell in love with developing black and white film in the dark room.
Her fascination with youth and people on the fringes of society has inspired her lens, with intimate storytelling of a raw nature at the essence of her work. Charlie completed her Bachelor of Arts Photography at RMIT Melbourne in 2012 where her body of work predominantly explored adolescents in their homes and intimate spaces during their significant explorative years.
Charlie’s professional photography career began in 2013 with an all women’s New Balance campaign, entitled “Excellence is walking your own path.” She went on to collaborate with many local and overseas brands, shooting for clients such as Wrangler, Lee, Urban Outfitters, Suku Home, Mumm champagne and various publications.
Charlie’s connection to Indian culture through her ancestral linage has led her to traverse the colorful, majestic country frequently, where she captured the analog series “Motherland” which subsequently became an exhibition and self published book in 2018.
Charlie takes great pleasure in translating clients products in to eye-capturing visuals for small and large businesses, musicians and other creative visionaries. Her love for producing emotive portraiture is carried through from her personal work to her commercial work, with a playful and authentic energy.
